ATALISSA, Iowa - Mary E. DeVore, 85, of Atalissa, died on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.
Funeral Service will held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 24, 2013, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Maurie Campbell from Iowa City Hospice will officiate. Honorary bearers will be her granddaughters, Danielle Grimm, Erin DeVore, Amy Pace, and Brianna Griffith. Casket bearers will be her grandsons, James McMichael, Jason McMichael, Jarrod McMichael, Matthew McMichael, Ryan Pace, Brandon DeVore, and Bradley DeVore. Burial will be in Overman Cemetery, Atalissa.
Visitation will be from 1 until 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2013, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice or the Atalissa Fire Department.
Mary was born on January 9, 1928, in Muscatine, the daughter of Clifford and Cecil 'Minnie' Phillips Atkins. She married Donald DeVore on December 30, 1945, in Muscatine. He preceded her in death in 1989.
She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary for the Atalissa Volunteer Fire Station. She was an avid crocheter.
Those left to honor her memory include two sons, Bryan DeVore and wife, Penney, of Wilton, and Timothy DeVore of Atalissa; three daughters, Linda McMichael and husband, Jerry, of Atalissa, Doris McMichael and husband, Ron, of Atalissa, and Carolyn Pace and husband, Bill, of Atalissa; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two half-sisters, Diane Clearman and Christine Sindt, both of Buffalo.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters; three brothers; one half-brother; and one granddaughter.
